History: Zhoukou was the capital of Chu in the end of State Warring. In Ming and Qing Dynasties, with the development of Shayinhe Water Transport, Zhoukou became an important hinge connected southwestern area and south region of the Yangtze River. Zhoukou was suffered from flood for nine years from 1938. In 2000, Zhoukou was changed into a prefecture-level city.

Climate. Zhoukou is located in the fuzzy zone between subtropical monsoon climate and warm temperate monsoon climate. It features four distinctive seasons and plentiful rainfall. The annual average temperature probably ranged from 14.5℃-15.8℃. It has a free-frost period of 219 days and rainfall of 689mm-816mm.

Transportation: Railway-Luofu Railway, a standard railway connected Jingguang Railway and Jingjiu Railway, passes through Zhoukou, Xiangcheng, Shengqiu, Anhui and so on.

Highway-Ningluo Highway, Shangzhou Highway, Daguang Railway, Yongdeng Railway, State Road 311 and State Road 106 run through Zhoukou City.

Waterway- Xiangchen Port is the largest port in Henan province. Zhoukou Port and Liuwan Port take important role in Henan.

Local Specialty: Ruyang Chinese Painting brush of Liu Family has a history of more than 2,000 years.

Local Food: Golden Melon, Chinese Date, Xiaoyao Hot and Spicy Soup, Taikang Elbow, Dengcheng Pig’s feet.

Attractions: Nvwa Ancient City- Nvwa Ancient City (女娲城), as an ancient cultural site, was listed as Provincial Cultural Relics Proctection Units. Nvwa, a well-respected goodness in Chinese mythology, created human being by kneading clay figurines, refined stones to repair the sky and gave birth to everything. Nvwa Ancient City covers an area of over 60m and all halls worship statues of Nvwa.

Taiqing Palace- Henan province is the birthplace of Lao Zi. Taiqing Palace (太清宫) was built in Eastern Han Dynasty to memorize Lao Zi, when it was named Lao Zi Temple. It is a famous Taoist temple an the largest Taoist building in Northeast of China. It had 102 houses in total, occupying an area of 5,250 square meters. There were many precept transmissions held in the Taiqing Palace in the past the dynasties. It was designated by the State Council as key national Taoist temple in 1983.
