Vadodara, located in the 22° 18' 00" N and 73° 12' 01" E, is one of the famous cities in the central part of the state of Gujarat in India. Situated on the banks of the Vishwamitri river, Vadodara is the fertile plain land between the rivers Narmada and Mahi.
This Indian city of Vadodara was earlier called as Baroda. The city is even famously known as Sanskari Nagari, which means the "city of culture" or Sayaji Nagari, named after one of its renowned leader Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III. Vadodara is regarded as the "Gateway to the Golden Quadrilateral" for its well-connected transport system.
As per Census 2011, Vadodara is the third populous city of Gujarat with a total population of 1, 839, 428.Vadodara experiences a dry and wet tropical climate with three distinctive seasons of summer, winter and monsoon.
- Summer. Summer season in Vadodara stretches from March to July with a dry weather. The maximum summer temperature rises till 36° C.
- Monsoon. Post summer, the monsoon in Vadodara sets in during mid-June and continues till mid-September. The average annual rainfall registers around 93 cm. Heavy rainfalls makes the river flood at times.
- Winter. Residents of Vadodara enjoys winter climate in between the months of November and February with a minimum temperature of 15° C.
By road: Travel to Vadodara has been made much convenient by the Indian National Expressway 1 and National Highway 8. Easy public road transportation is provided by the buses run by VTPL as well as the local taxis and auto-rickshaws.
By Rail: The Vadodara Railway Station is the nearest railway station to the city, which has around 150 trains pass through it. The trains, which connect Vadodara to all the major cities in India, are Rajdhani, Jan Shatabdi, Shatabdi etc.
By Air: Vadodara Airport, the sole airport in Vadodara connects the city domestically to New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, Nagpur and Hyderabad. The city will have its own International Airport soon.Vadodara, being one of the oldest cities and a place of culture, has got numerous tourist attractions.
