Popularly known as the Land of Plenty, Hanumangarh District is the 31st district of the Rajasthan in India. Rajasthani is the primary language spoken in this district. The headquarters of the district is located in the town of Hanumangarh.

Hanumangarh is the northern most district of Rajasthan. Occupying an area of around 9656.09 sq km, the district is surrounded by Churu, Sri Ganganagar, Punjab and Haryana in the south, west, north and east respectively. The geographical coordinates of the district are 29° 5' to 30° 6' North latitude and 74° 3' to 75� 3' east Longitude.

The district has 7 sub-divisions or tehsils, which are Pilibanga, Tibi, Hanumangarh, Rawatsar, Bhadra, Sangaria and Nowar. The tehsils are divided amongst 3 Panchayat Samitis which are Hanumangarh, Bhadra and Nohar. The population of the district as per 2001 census is 1517390.

The history of this place dates back to the age of the Indus Valley civilization. The region was a part of this ancient civilization, as has been proved by the discovery of stamps, coins, statues, toys, wells, jewelry, human skeletons, streets, forts and bathrooms belonging to that period.

Hanumangarh was originally known as Bhatner. At that time it was ruled over by the Bhatis. The emperor of Bikaner. Soorat Singh, defeated the Bhatis and captured this place in the year 1805. Since he won over this place on Tuesday, a day dedicated to god Hanuman, he changed the name of the place to Hanumangarh.

Farming is the main activity that is carried out in the Hanumangarh District in Rajasthan. Crops like pearl millet, wheat, cotton and rice are grown over here. Different kinds of vegetables are also grown over here. There are almost 40 registered small scale industries in this place.

Due to its rich history, the district is home to some of the major tourist attractions in Rajasthan. The places that one can visit include:

A large number of festivals and fairs are also held in this place, thereby giving one a good idea about the culture of Rajasthan. Jod Mela and Mata Brahmani Mela are two of the main religious festivals of this district.

Hanumangarh is well connected by rail network to places like Ganganagar, Bhatinda, Bikaner, Jodhpur. Jaipur and other cities of Rajasthan. One can also travel by road from Bikaner. One can either take a bus or hire a car and get to this place.
